CBD and Menopause

25/05/2021

Most of us know that menopause can often be a major problem for women. The symptoms can be very hard to deal with, and often include heavy sweating, mood swings, sleep problems, and issues with skin (to name just a few).

To reduce menopausal symptoms, many women look at hormone replacement therapy (HRT). However, a growing number of studies has shown this can have seriously adverse long-term health effects, including:

  • Incontinence
  • Increased risk of dementia
  • Increased risk of stroke, blood clots, and heart attacks
  • Increased risk of bread cancer.

It’s of little surprise, then, that women are increasingly doing without HRT and relying on effective plant-based support like isolate CBD oil online to help combat the symptoms of menopause.

How Can CBD Help During Menopause?

To understand how isolate CBD oil online can help with menopause, we first need to look at the body’s own endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS has receptors to which CBD binds and thereby activates it.

These so-called CB receptors are distributed throughout the body, mainly in nerve and immune cells, which are largely responsible for our health. The CB1 receptors are located where the body regulates appetite, processes feelings and stores memories. The CB2 receptors are mainly found in immune cells that are responsible for fighting diseases.

Many of the functions of the CB1 receptors are affected by hormonal changes during menopause, and this is why CBD can prove so helpful in better regulating these functions and re-achieving homeostasis in the body.

Why Should I Try CBD for Menopause?

One thing in advance: unfortunately, there is currently no (sufficiently documented) study that links CBD with menopause. There is a lot of anecdotal evidence online with many women saying how much CBD has helped them through menopause, but we really like hard science. As such, to claim that taking isolate CBD oil online, or even full spectrum CBD oil, would make all the symptoms of menopause go away would be simply wrong.

However, this doesn’t exclude CBD oil from being used to treat the symptoms of menopause –many of the symptoms associated with menopause not only occur during menopause, but also in completely different contexts. For example, many people are plagued by sleep disorders, and several studies have shown that CBD helps with this.

What does all this mean in concrete terms? Well, it may be worthwhile taking CBD products to treat menopause when common symptoms occur. Often, menopausal symptoms can’t be clearly attributed to the changing hormonal balance of women, but simply to the aging body, for example.

In the case of stress or anxiety, for instance, it is difficult to say whether this is due to the menopause or whether it is possibly due to another source. In principle, however, it is never wrong to reach for CBD and try it out, because there are thousands of people who have had very positive experiences with CBD.

What Symptoms Can CBD Help With?

We’re glad you asked! There are many studies that have shown CBD to have beneficial effects in treating the following health issues, which also happen to be issues which arise during menopause:

  • Menstrual cycle problems
  • Weight gain
  • Hot flashes
  • Sleep disorders
  • Mood swings
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Joint pain
  • Hair and skin problems
  • Osteoporosis
  • Depression

Closing Thoughts

With new studies on the benefits of CBD coming out each and every week, we’re sure there will be some peer-reviewed research on menopause coming out soon. In the meantime, though, hundreds of thousands of women all over the world, including Australia, are trying to avoid HRT and go for natural supplements to try and combat the symptoms of menopause.

As always, though, consult with your medical health professional before trying any new supplements. And, wherever you choose to purchase your CBD from, make sure it’s premium! You can do this by checking that the retailer displays an independent laboratory certificate of analysis for their products, like we do here.
