Not so Down To Earth: How Netflix’s ‘Down To Earth with Zac Efron’ has literally crashed our sales
Like everyone else, at Down To Earth we LOVE to Netflix and chill, especially using Down To Earth’s CBD products to really relax and get in the mood!
And we also love Zac Efron. How could you not – I mean Hairspray, right?
But, as much as we love Netflix and Zac Efron, they’ve inadvertently caused a massive crash in our sales. Oops.
You might be scratching your head and wondering how on earth Netflix and Zac Efron have done this?
Well, in 2020 Netflix released a docu-series called “Down To Earth with Zac Efron” that explores important topics such as wellness, nature, sustainability and nature. It’s a great series to Netflix and chill with!
Then, in late 2022, Netflix released season two of “Down To Earth with Zac Efron: Down Under”. While we love anything that showcases incredible Australian landscapes and Indigenous Australians’ voices, unfortunately the release of season two has led to a crash in our sales.
Why is that?
Well, before season two of “Down to Earth with Zac Efron: Down Under” was released, our Down To Earth CBD website came up as the first listing in Australia if you searched “Down To Earth” in Google.
This meant that we were getting a ton of wonderful customers like you landing on our website, looking for our range of premium CBD products.
We rely on word of mouth: for a small, family owned and operated business, there’s no better recommendation for a business than one from a family member or friend. It’s the most powerful way a business can grow a customer base.
It’s not hard to understand why either – you trust your family and friends more than an advertisement or a blog or an influencer.
And having potential customers find our website easily by typing a quick search into Google is critical to our business operations. In fact, around twenty per cent of our business sales happened because customers searched “Down To Earth” in Google.
So when news of season two of Netflix’s “Down To Earth with Zac Efron: Down Under” was released, whenever anyone in Australia searched for Down To Earth, our website was pushed to 45th position.
Yep, that’s right, 45th position!
We all know that if you’re searching for anything on Google, you’re not going to scroll through the 5th page of web results to find the one you want!
So because of this, our business has taken a big hit. As a small business, one that’s family owned and operated, we simply can’t compete with a massive multi-national behemoth company like Netflix.
No matter what we do, it’s just not possible.

Unfortunately, however, if our sales don’t improve, we’ll have some really tough decisions to make.
