Effective Natural Ways To Reduce Hyperhidrosis

CBD As A Treatment For Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis, a condition characterised by excessive sweating, affects millions of people worldwide. This condition can significantly impact daily life, causing discomfort and embarrassment. There are a number of treatments available, but many only offer temporary relief, come with side effects or are invasive. Fortunately, CBD has emerged as a potential hyperhidrosis natural treatment option.

In this blog, we’ll explore the causes of hyperhidrosis, current treatments and how CBD might offer an effective solution.

What Is Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition where the body sweats excessively and unpredictably. People with hyperhidrosis may sweat even when the temperature is cool or when they’re at rest. This condition can affect specific areas such as the underarms, palms, feet or face, and sometimes the entire body.

What Causes Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis can be classified into two types: primary and secondary. Primary hyperhidrosis has no known cause but is thought to be related to the overactivity of the sympathetic nervous system, which controls the body’s “fight-or-flight” responses, preparing the body for strenuous physical activity. Primary hyperhidrosis often begins in childhood or adolescence and is not associated with any underlying medical condition.

Secondary hyperhidrosis, on the other hand, is usually caused by an underlying medical condition or medication. Conditions such as diabetes, hyperthyroidism and menopause can trigger excessive sweating. Medications that can cause hyperhidrosis include antidepressants and drugs used to treat high blood pressure.

Are There Any Effective Hyperhidrosis Treatments Available?

Several effective hyperhidrosis treatments are available, ranging from lifestyle changes to medical interventions. Here are some common options:

Antiperspirants

Over-the-counter antiperspirants are often the first line of defence. These products often contain aluminium chloride, which temporarily blocks sweat glands.

Medications

Doctors may prescribe anticholinergic medications, which reduce sweating by blocking the neurotransmitter responsible for sweat gland stimulation. Beta-blockers and benzodiazepines can also help manage symptoms of anxiety-related sweating.

Botox Injections

Botox injections aren’t just to prevent wrinkles! They can be used to block the nerves that trigger sweat glands. This treatment is particularly effective for underarm sweating and can provide relief for several months.

Iontophoresis

Iontophoresis is a procedure that uses electrical currents to temporarily shut down sweat glands. It’s often used for sweating of the hands and feet.

Surgery

In severe cases, a surgical procedure called sympathectomy can be performed. This involves cutting the nerves that cause excessive sweating.

CBD As A Treatment For Hyperhidrosis

All of the above treatments are either invasive or don’t get to the root cause of the hyperhidrosis. Antiperspirants only mask the problem, medications have side effects, while botox, iontophoresis and surgery are invasive.

Then there are also home remedies for hyperhidrosis, such as applying apple cider vinegar to the affected area, applying cornstarch and baking soda to the skin to absorb excess moisture and dietary changes like avoiding coffee.

Now, while these home remedies for hyperhidrosis may be effective for some people, going to work smelling like a salad, having awkward powder patches on your clothes or even functioning without your morning cup of joe do not sound appealing.

This is where CBD may help as a hyperhidrosis natural treatment. CBD is a compound derived from the cannabis plant that has been found to have numerous therapeutic properties, including anti-inflammatory and anxiety-reducing effects. Let’s take a look at how can CBD help with hyperhidrosis.

How CBD Can Help with Hyperhidrosis

CBD interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS), which plays a role in regulating various bodily functions, including sweat production. The ECS consists of receptors, endocannabinoids and enzymes that work together to maintain balance in the body.

CBD has been shown to influence the ECS by interacting with its receptors, potentially reducing the overactivity of sweat glands. Additionally, CBD’s anti-anxiety properties can help manage stress-induced sweating, a common trigger for people with hyperhidrosis.

CBD And Hyperhidrosis: A Case Study

A 2022 case study demonstrated CBD’s effectiveness in treating hyperhidrosis. A 43-year-old man, who had suffered from hyperhidrosis since adolescence and found no relief from other treatments, experienced severe sweating, anxiety and laboured breathing in stressful situations. Researchers gave him 300 mg of THC-free CBD before work, along with his regular 50 mg daily dose. This allowed him to interact normally without constantly drying his hands. After stopping CBD, his symptoms returned, so he resumed CBD therapy, which kept his condition under control. Since September 2019, he has taken 50 mg of CBD twice daily, effectively managing his excessive sweating.

While this is only one case and more research is needed into how CBD may alleviate hyperhidrosis, these results are very promising.

How Full-Spectrum CBD Helps With Sweating

Down To Earth’s premium range of full-spectrum CBD oils may provide relief from hyperhidrosis. Full-spectrum oils contain not just CBD, but also other compounds found in the cannabis plant, including terpenes, flavonoids and cannabinoids, including a trace amount (less than 0.3%) of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is commonly associated with the psychoactive, or “high”, effect of marijuana consumption, but the trace amounts of THC in full-spectrum CBD are not enough to induce the psychoactive effects.

Need minor hyperhidrosis relief? Our Full Defence 500 might be the go. For moderate cases of hyperhidrosis, our Full Defence 1000 may offer more relief. For those with severe or extreme hyperhidrosis, our Full Defence 3000 is our most potent CBD and may just be the ticket.

Hyperhidrosis can be a challenging condition to manage, but with full-spectrum CBD oil as a natural remedy you might not need some of the more extreme and invasive treatments.

But remember, if you are considering using CBD for hyperhidrosis, it’s important to consult with your doctor to ensure it is safe and appropriate for your specific needs, especially if you’re on medication or have any other medical conditions.
