CBD Products for Pets: Homemade CBD Dog Treats!

Seeing your dog loving life is one of the great joys of being a pet owner, so today we’re going to look at a few ways you can make your pup happy –while also looking after his or her health.

Benefits of CBD Oil for Dogs

First up, let’s cover the basics. (For those already familiar with what CBD is, and the benefits for pets, feel free to skip ahead to the next section).

Cannabidiol, known as CBD for short, is a beneficial compound derived from hemp or marijuana plants. It’s known for its diverse potential for improving health in both humans and animals. CBD Oil is highly safe and doesn’t produce the harsh side effects of traditional medications. While cannabis plants are typically associated with producing a ‘high’, CBD oil has no psychoactive effects at all.

The health benefits for your dog have been researched with various peer-reviewed clinical studies, and include:

  • Relieving anxiety and stress
  • Reducing cancer symptoms, and even treating it
  • Treating seizures, minimizing their occurrence and severity
  • Relieving pain
  • Promoting hearth health
  • Promoting fur and skin health.

Homemade CBD Dog Treats

Prior to going into specific ideas below for your dog’s treats, you may be wondering about what dosage you should provide your dog. This depends on size, or the condition you’re treating, and as such we’ve created a dosage guide to help you determine what’s ideal for your pet here.

Now, onto the fun part!

Make a Frosty CBD Icy Pole!

All you need is an ice cube tray and some ingredients you likely already have. Start by choosing a few dog-friendly ingredients you can easily mix with a spoon, like classic peanut butter, unsweetened apple sauce, plain yogurt or low-sodium chicken broth. Add your ingredients to a small mixing bowl and stir together. You can also add a few small pieces of chopped up dog-friendly fruits and vegetables, or pieces of kibble. Add your drops of CBD oil and stir to combine. Place the ice cube tray in the freezer and wait until the treats are frozen solid. Pop out one or two treats daily and serve to your dog.

Mix CBD with Peanut Butter

Use any kind of peanut butter you like, but just make sure you avoid sugar-free peanut butter as it may be toxic to your dog. In a small bowl, mix the drops of CBD with peanut butter until well-combined. Then, place it on top of a biscuit or spoon it into your dog’s food dish.

Bonus tip: if your dog suffers from separation anxiety, you can put the CBD peanut butter mix into a hollow toy designed for food dispensing. Served room temperature or frozen, the pleasantly distracting toy combined with the relaxing properties of CBD Oil may help soothe your dog’s nerves.

Final Thoughts

These homemade CBD dog treats won’t just help keep your dog happy and healthy, they’ll save you money. Usually, ready-made CBD dog treats are far more expensive than simply getting CBD oil for pets.

Just make sure you’re getting quality CBD oil, which you can tell by checking that the retailer has an independent laboratory certificate of analysis which shows potency and purity.

As always, we want to hear from you! What experience have you had giving your pet CBD oil? How did it help? Let us know in the comments, or for any questions, email us here. We’re always happy to help.
